Everyday, my little brother tries to make friends at the park. One day, a mother told me that her son is not allowed to play with black kids, and took her son away telling him that my brother wasn’t good enough for him. Everyday my brother continued to try to play with the young boy. Today, my brother questioned why he was not good enough for the boy. The mother had no answer, and now she lets her son play with my little brother.

My brother’s determination inspires me.

Yesterday morning my grandfather passed away.  He was truly one of the strongest men I’ve ever met. He helped me to become the woman that I am; he taught me that it’s okay to be grumpy sometimes, and that no matter how bad things may be, to face them with a smile and make light of things.  He was hardworking, stubborn, and generous.  He helped out anyone in any way he could without any hesitation.  He inspired me, and he always will.

I’m not sure if I believe in heaven, or afterlife, or anything like that, but if something greater does exist, I know he’s there right now smiling at all of us.  I’m glad he’s not on earth suffering anymore. 

I just wish I had gotten a chance to say goodbye.  The last time I had seen him, we were laughing and exchanging farewell’s and “I’ll see you soons”.  This was all so sudden.  Never again will I take someone for granted.  I just hope he went painlessly and knowing we all loved him.

Rest in peace, Grandpa.  I’ll always love you and miss you.  We all will.  Your memory and inspiration will live on in all of us.
